Hasbro reported a smaller-than-expected drop in first-quarter sales and handily beat profit estimates on Wednesday, as leaner inventories and steady digital gaming revenue helped cushion a drag from softer demand for toys. However, efforts to clean up its inventory throughout 2023, along with cost efficiencies, helped its operating margin expand to 15.3%, from 1.8% last year. On an adjusted basis, Hasbro reported earnings per share of 61 cents in the quarter ended March 31, compared to 1 cent last year. The toy maker said it was on track to achieve the fiscal 2024 targets it set in February. On Tuesday, Barbie maker Mattel posted a smaller-than-expected loss for the first quarter, helped by its costs-saving measures.

The updated version of the game won’t be available in the United States, however, as Mattel does not hold the license there. The company behind Nokia-branded smartphones, HMD, short for Human Mobile Devices, says it is launching a Barbie flip phone this summer, in partnership with toy maker Mattel . Soon, you'll be able to get a flip phone from the blockbuster toy franchise. It won't be connected to the internet, making it a throwback to the "dumb phones" of yesteryear before smartphones became popular. The device looks like a standard flip phone with buttons rather than a touch screen, and comes in a hot pink color, resembling the iconic pink flip phone accessory that comes with many Barbie dolls. This is a step away from Nokia which is the brand HMD typically has used to sell its dumb phones and smartphones.

Cord-cutters rejoice: Normally, watching an awards show involves subscribing to a live TV service (or remembering which of your email addresses you haven’t already used for a free trial). But on Saturday, for the first time, Netflix will be streaming the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, potentially bringing them to a much wider audience. The 15 awards, which are voted on by actors and other performers who belong to the SAG-AFTRA union, honor the best film and television performances from the past year. They can be a bellwether for the Oscars, happening this year on March 10. (Since 1996, 83 of the 112 stars and films that won Oscars for best picture or acting first won a SAG Award.)

Arm Holdings — The chipmaker's stock soared more than 28% after it reported a fiscal third-quarter earnings beat . Apollo Global Management — Shares rose nearly 3% after the asset management company's fourth quarter earnings topped estimates.
